The Role

Alvara is hiring a Director of AI & Data Strategy to lead the development and deployment of our internal AI infrastructure and behavioral intelligence systems. Reporting to the CTO, this is a core technical leadership role responsible for scaling AlvaraAI, our in-house LLM-based platform for internal operations, consumer feedback, product optimization, and intelligent supply chain management.

You’ll design and lead the company’s full data strategy unifying behavioral, product, and supply chain data into a cohesive architecture. You’ll oversee AI agent deployment, lead model training initiatives, and guide the ethical use of AI across business functions. You’ll also play a central role in ensuring our data stack is secure, privacy-compliant, and structured for long-term interoperability across 

verticals and geographies.

Key Deliverables in the First 12–18 Months

• Architect and launch v1 of AlvaraAI, an internal suite of LLM-based agents supporting supply chain, QA, compliance, and customer ops
• Stand up a scalable data ingestion and labeling pipeline across physical retail, digital touchpoints, and product interfaces
• Design and implement the company’s foundational data schema and AI ops environment
• Build core infrastructure to enable real-time behavioral analytics, product feedback loops, and retail interaction mapping
• Establish and document AI governance standards aligned with ethical and regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA)
• Partner with Product and Customer Success to convert qualitative feedback into data-driven insights
• Build the early technical team to support AI development, data ops, and ML tooling
• Support CTO and CEO in investor conversations related to Alvara’s data and AI architecture

Who You Are

You are a deeply technical AI and data strategist who thrives in high-complexity environments. You’ve built systems that balance intelligence with integrity - AI tools that empower teams, unlock new capabilities, and scale responsibly. You can lead across engineering, data science, and product, translating ideas into infrastructure and infrastructure into strategic leverage. 

You move between theory and application with fluency, and you understand the ethical responsibility that comes with building intelligent systems from scratch.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8–12+ years experience in data science, AI engineering, or ML infrastructure roles
• Proven success architecting and deploying LLM-based systems, internal AI agents, or intelligent tooling
• Experience managing full data stack architecture—data ingestion, warehousing, modeling, and retrieval
• Strong familiarity with AI/ML tooling ecosystems (e.g., LangChain, Pinecone, OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face)
• Deep experience with data governance, privacy law, and responsible AI principles
• Experience leading teams or working cross-functionally with engineering, product, and analytics stakeholders
• Fluency with Python, SQL, vector databases, and cloud-based infrastructure for AI services
• Ability to convert qualitative inputs into structured data for model training and improvement

Preferred Experience

• Built AI systems that interact with physical environments or commerce platforms
• Experience in supply chain, logistics, retail analytics, or consumer behavior modeling
• Prior work with decentralized data models, open agent frameworks, or federated learning systems
• Experience integrating AI layers into operational tools or enterprise workflows
• Published research or contributions to open-source ML projects a plus

Compensation

Salary Range: $140,000 – $160,000 base
Equity: Founding team grant
Benefits: 32 Hour Work Week (Mon–Thu), Full medical, dental, vision, PTO, and full access to platform-level architecture and long-term planning
